After having written the VTNE, it is necessary to continue to maintain your certification status through Continuing Education credits. These requirements are comparable to other Veterinary Technician associations across Canada and various other medical associations. The purpose of acquiring CE Credits is to guarantee a standardization of excellence in the Veterinary Technician Profession.
CE AT A GLANCE:
Here's a list of the commonly submitted CE credits (CEC) for RVTs
Please refer to OAVT CE Policies document for more complete details
Anyone who fails to accumulate the required number of credits within the allotted time frame may lose the right to continue to use the RVT designation. Please refer to the By-law section (By-law #1 Article 6.3 and By-law #2 Article 2.2) on our website. In addition, certified RVTs must also maintain their membership status with the OAVT.
In order to submit your CE, you must complete the CE Credit Reporting form on the OAVT website and attach proof of attendance or certificate of completion to the credit report.
You must submit proofs of attendance in order for your CE to be credited to you. Hang onto your proofs of CE (i.e., conference attendance certificates, certificates of completion of on-line CE or workshops, etc.) so that they can be submitted with your CE form.
On-Line CE Opportunities
More and more CE opportunities are available on-line for veterinary technicians.
TechNews Journal includes Quizzes for CE credits (instructions for submission are included with the Quizz)
If you have any questions about CE, please feel free to contact: loretta@oavt.org
